Grand Openings: Machrahanish Dunes Welcomes Two New Luxury Hotels in 2012.
The year 2012 has brought exciting developments to Machrahanish Dunes, with the opening of two new luxury hotels—one in Machrihanish and the other in nearby Campbeltown.
In February, the historic Ugadale Hotel in Machrihanish completed its restoration and reopened in grand style. Boasting 23 luxurious en-suite guest rooms and suites, the Ugadale Hotel now offers visitors a boutique Serenity Spa, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and dining privileges in the exclusive Kintyre Club dining room. Situated just steps away from the first tee of the renowned Machrihanish Golf Club, The Ugadale is the ideal destination for those seeking a links golf vacation in Scotland’s scenic countryside. With its charming Ugadale Cottages and the nearby Old Clubhouse Pub, The Ugadale Hotel offers guests a glimpse into a bygone era of comfort and elegance.
May saw the much-anticipated reopening of another historic gem—The Royal Hotel at The Village at Machrihanish Dunes. Perched five miles from Machrihanish overlooking the picturesque Campbeltown Harbour, The Royal Hotel welcomed guests and residents of Campbeltown and Kintyre with a grand fireworks display. Offering 22 beautifully appointed en-suite guest rooms, each with stunning views of the bustling harbor, The Royal Hotel also features two dining and entertainment options—the Harborview Grille and Black Sheep Pub. Complimentary shuttle coaches ensure seamless transportation to and from Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club and The Ugadale Hotel throughout the day.
These grand openings mark an exciting new chapter in Machrahanish Dunes’ legacy of luxury and hospitality, inviting guests to experience the beauty and charm of Scotland’s west coast in unparalleled style.

Situated to the south of Royal Dornoch, Tain is a heathland/links course with spectacular views. Designed originally by Old Tom Morris as a fifteen-hole course in 1890, it was extended to eighteen holes in 1894; eleven Morris holes are still in play today. This is an easy walking course with the river meandering through three of the holes. Always presented in beautiful condition, Tain is a good test of golf, with clever bunkering and natural water hazards. Tain is located 35 miles north of Inverness.
